Assisted the Project Management Office of a major on-line financial services/brokerage firm in introducing project standards and controls in its information technology infrastructure organization. Subsequently assumed project management responsibilities for a major upgrade of the telephony infrastructure in more than 100 locations nationwide. Required substantial coordination of multiple vendors, technology and business constituencies. Generated all necessary project documentation (charter, plan, resource roster, dashboard updates, etc.). Chaired weekly meetings with various stakeholder groups.
Worked with the senior-most executive of a major life insurer’s 500 person national operations center to introduce and implement the concept of a “relationship manager” into the mix of teams (underwriting, claims, etc.) serving the hundreds of agents across the country. Mobilized, educated and assisted a team of 10 senior managers to roll-out the capability and the metrics to gauge the program’s effectiveness. Prepared and maintained all associated collateral.
Assisted the Real Estate Capital Markets group of a major global bank in
selecting, customizing and implementing a packaged commercial banking application
that originates, underwrites and securitizes commercial real estate loans between
$5MM and $750MM.
In 8 months, a TLL-led project team:
- assisted the business in stopping a non-productive internally-led project that
had expended 18 months and $2MM without producing an identifiable result.
- helped the business unit to identify and evaluate 4 different system alternatives
and select one that would adequately meet the business’ requirements;
- developed and initiated a plan to implement the newly identified solution
- specified new requirements, modified the package to meet these requirements;
- developed and built a demonstration application to coordinate user feedback and
- wrote several hundred test cases and conducted several cycles of acceptance testing;
- educated more than 150 users; and
- moved the application into production in 3 releases spaced 8 weeks apart.
Managed an $8 million dollar program to develop a browser-based consumer
loan processing system for the consumer lending organization of the nation's
5th largest bank. This new system used a complex multi-platform environment
(Sun, Java, Netscape, Web Logic, Oracle, IBM mainframe and Unix legacy system
interfaces). Program participants included: IBM Global Services, Andersen
Consulting, Keystroke Financial Incorporated, and two additional, lesser-known
consulting companies. Functional participants included call center representatives,
credit/risk, underwriting, and marketing. Information technology group participants
included: data warehousing, development, and e-commerce. At program initiation,
we implemented project planning, control, documentation, issue management
and escalation, and reporting procedures. We then improved procedural execution
surrounding requirements definition, systems documentation, vendor management,
software build and release, and testing (both system and user-acceptance).
Assisted a prominent investment bank in implementing an information systems-related
program management capability. This engagement required planning and managing
four short-term New York development projects, needed by the London-based
program headquarters, to support the firm's purchase and conversion of a
competitor's global custody business.
